Under section 40(b) of the Factory Act, 1948, Government of India
authorised the State Government to make it mandatory for the industrial
units to appoint Safety Officer to protect the workers from occupational
hazards like bodily injuries, poisoning diseases etc. Under this
provision and the rules framed by the Directorate General, Factory
Advisory Service and Central Labour Institute, Safety Officers
have to possess formal safety education and Diploma in Industrial
Safety. To fulfil the need for such qualified safety officials
and to help spread of safety education, the Institute offers a
one-year post Diploma course in Industrial Safety. The syllabus
of the course is based on and is similar to diploma course offered
by the Central Labour Institute and the Regional Labour Institutes
in the country. The institute is concerned with the need for providing
education, for the working class and the problem of "Safety
and Health" at work. The course is recognised by the Government
and is affiliated to the State Council of Technical Education
and Training, Orissa.
1) For Fresher - 1st Shift
a) Fresh B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering/Bachelor of Engineering/B.Tech.
2) For Working & Experienced candidates - 2nd Shift
a) A degree of recognised University in any branch of engineering
or Technology or its equivalent with 2 years experience in the
supervisory position of management in a factory in either production
or maintenance or safety department.
b) A degree of recognised University with Physics and Chemistry
with 3 year experience in the supervisory or managerial position
in a factory in either production or maintenance or safety department.
c) A diploma in any branch of engineering or Technology recognised
by the State Government with 3 years of experience in the capacity
mentioned in (a) and (b) above.
